Dear ??,
You may have heard about Linux. Maybe a friend told you about it, or you heard about it in the news or while surfing the net. Perhaps you wanted to try it, but you didn't. Why not? Well... You didn't have a spare computer on which to run it. You were worried that it would damage your hard drive or erase the contents of your hard drive when you installed it. You didn't want to make the time commitment to read through the directions for something that may not benefit you. Yet, there is hope. You can run Linux directly from a CD-Rom (called a LiveCD) without reformatting your computer or losing any data. Experience Linux in the time it takes to boot your machine. The enclosed LiveCD includes several common applications: * OpenOffice.org (an office productivity center including a spreadsheet, word processor, and two graphics programs) Over 900 software packages with over 2000 programs are installed on the enclosed CD. Any one of them can be run in just minutes right from the CD, without having to reformat your system. The software included is a small sample of the programs available with Linux. The LiveCD also includes the ability to connect to the internet automatically via dynamic configuration (DHCP), or you can configure your network interface card through the menu system. You can also connect to the internet using a modem; however, software-based modems/WinModems are not supported. Please enjoy the enclosed no-risk CD as an easy way to review Linux without making a commitment of any kind. Feel free to burn copies of the disk. Hand it out to students and friends. If you have no need for the disk, rather than throw it away, please pass it (and this letter) on to someone else. They will appreciate the chance to try Linux for no charge and with no risk. Thank you. http://learnaboutlinux.com/ |
